The POLMIC collection of websites focused on the most outstanding contemporary Polish composers’ was developed in 2018 by launching its new part, devoted to the famous woman composer and violinist Grażyna Bacewicz (1909–1969). It was in this way that the organisers wished to present her exceptional musical output to the broad Polish and international audience, and to draw a special attention to both her compositions and great violin performances on the occasion of the 110th birth anniversary and the 50th anniversary of her death.
On September 21, 2018, at the premises of Warsaw branch of the PWM Edition at Fredry Street, the presentation of the website was held, as the 61st “Warsaw Autumn” International Festival of Contemporary Music fringe event. The meeting was led by Beata Bolesławska-Lewandowska, PhD (chairwoman of the Musicologists’ Section of the Polish Composers’ Union) and Lech Dzierżanowski. Its special guest was Małgorzata Gąsiorowska – the author of the essays. The participants had chance to listen to the brief concert: Joanna Freszel (soprano) and Bartłomiej Kominek (piano) – great Polish musicians performed rather rarely quoted and presented songs composed by Grażyna Bacewicz.
The project has been run by the Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC / Polish Composers’ Union, in partnership with the PWM Edition and the University of Warsaw Library, and it was financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Polish Republic within the framework of its “Kultura Cyfrowa” (the “Digital Culture”) Programme.
